BRICK CLAY PIT

Next to the former clay pit in Frick lie remnants of the former brick production. The stored bricks are becoming increasingly brittle due to weathering. For many years, clay was extracted in this area and processed into building materials on site. Today, production has ceased. The pit is abandoned, and the remaining materials lie scattered across the landscape.

SOAP DISH MANUFACTURING

I use the leftover bricks to make new soap dishes. Not all scraps are suitable for high-fire firing, as some components can melt in the kiln. Careful selection and sorting of the material is therefore crucial.

For further processing, the bricks are finely ground and mixed with new clay. This creates a malleable mass with stable firing properties. I use the different colors of the bricks specifically for coloring the soap dishes.

Using crushed bricks can reduce the proportion of new raw materials by around 50%. At the same time, material that would otherwise end up in landfills is utilized.
